LILYGUN

Noisy Girls  Interview with Anna-Christina from Lilygun

What is your band all about?

My band is about self-expression. A way of releasing energy and inner feelings.  Almost like therapy!

Why did you get into this?

The only reason why I formed a Rock band was because I had the music. I didn’t think that anyone would buy my songs to perform themselves, so I decided that the only way I could get people to hear them was to do it myself.

Describe you’re a) band  b) Music?

a) My band is unusual and honest
b) Our music is unpredictable, inventive, dark and aggressive at times and very loud.

What does the world need to know about your band?

That there’s only one reason why we're doing this and that’s because we love music.

Your goals?
To be happy with my work.

What do you currently have in the works at this time?

A lot of gigs and a new demo.

What are the obstacles you have faced and how have you overcome them?

Finding the right musicians is hard. Having to deal with other people's opinions of you that have nothing to do with your music.  Being judged on everything, even on what you’re wearing. We're musicians not bloody models, although nowadays most bands seem to want to be models as well haha!

What challenges do women face in the music industry?

Trying to break the mould.  There’s a lot of stereotypes of women.  Women go through all the same shit that guys do but for some reason there’s such double standards.  If a guy is assertive and dominates his work he is seen a “creative”, if a women is the same way, she is seen as a bitch?

Band name?

Lilygun

Why did you choose this name?

No real reason, just 2 words thrown together.

What do people misunderstand, if anything, about female bands?

They misunderstand their motives for being in the industry.  Some of us are actually good musicians!

What issues facing female bands do you feel deserve attention?

Less empathises on what they look like.  It’s about the message in what they’re saying and doing not about who they’re dating and what they’re wearing!
